The Ga Traditional Council has ordered a ban on drumming and noisemaking across the Ga State from May 4 to June 4, 2026, as part of customary rites leading to the annual Homowo Festival.
In a public address to the media, on Thursday March 26, the President of Ga Dangme Traditional Council , Nii Ayikoi Otoo, said that as ahead of the festival the Osu, La, Teshie, Nungua, Tema, and Kpone traditional areas will introduce separate bans after May 4, as the festival is observed on different days across the Ga State.
He indicated that the ban is intended to maintain peace, solemnity, and spiritual reflections in preparation towards the Homowo festival.
Giving details of the ban, Mr. Ayikoi Otoo said that all worship centers must scale down their activities and noise making including the use of microphone, hand clapping, use of tambourines is prohibited during the period.
He continued that loudspeakers outside church and mosque premises are disallowed, roadside evangelism with megaphone and other loudspeakers is not allowed, funeral rites and related activities not allowed during the period to except for one week after the ban is lifted.
