The minority caucus in parliament have urged government to publicly destroy confiscated Chanfangs with immediate effect.
According to a statement released by the minority on March 6, 2026, it explained that this step will make the equipment unusable and will send a clear warning that the state is serious in protecting the country’s resource from degradation.
“Such action will render the equipment permanently inoperable and send an unambiguous signal that the state is in earnest against those who would profit from desecrating Ghana’s natural heritage”.
It also demanded for full and transparent disclosure of persons behind the chanfang machines allegedly for illegal mining.
