A 36-year-old, Chalim Madzaton, who is suspected of attacking his girlfriend and murdered an 80-year-old woman, has been apprehended at his hide out in kpaye, a suburb of Ahamansu in the Oti region.
In a statement released by the Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Oti Region, John Nchor, the suspect was arrested after a report was received that he had allegedly attacked his 55-year-old girlfriend, Yaa Tugbenuo, and her mother at their residence.
According to the police , his girlfriend managed to escape during the incident but later returned to find her mother lying down motionless on the floor.
It further continued that the body of the deceased was found lying in supine position with visible signs of violence upon officers” visit to the scene.
“The scene was processed, and photographs were taken for evidential purpose. The deceased was pronounced dead by the medical officers at St. Mary Theresa Hospital and the body has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for prevention and autopsy”, it stated.
The policy said that the suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with investigation and will be arraigned before court at the appropriate time.
