The Electricity Company of Ghana has announced a major planned transformer replacement and upgrade exercise, which forms part of government efforts to enhance reliability, stability, and capacity of electricity supply nationwide.
In a statement, Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, the Directed of communication, stated that the exercise will begin with the replacement and upgrade of 12 power transformers across six primary substations located in Adenta, La Teshie-Nungua, Nmai-Dzor, Baatsona, and Lashibi.
According to the statement, these transformers will be updated from 20/26 MVA to 3039 MVA, significantly improving load-shading capacity and reducing system of overload in these fast-growing communities.
The first phase of the exercise id expected to start Wednesday, April 8, and run through Friday, April 10, 2026.
ECG indicated that, for safety and successful execution of the work, a there will be brief planned power outages in the affected areas.
The statement further that detailed schedule outlining the planned activities , expected duration, outrage period and the specific communities to be impacted has been prepared and will be available through ECG official channels.
However, ECG guarantees customers that they will do everything possible to reduce both the duration and impact of the outage and further urges business and residents to take note of the published schedules and make necessary the arrangements.
