The Government of Ghana is set to engage authorities of Burkina Faso on its decisions to halt the export of fresh tomato, which directly affect Ghana.
This follows a directive from Burkina Faso authority to suspend the export of fresh tomato, having given traders with existing permit two weeks after which all authorization will be revoked.
In a statement released on March 20, 2026, the trade and agric ministry said that the meeting is targeted at addressing the concerns surrounding the ban, alongside advancing common interest in a way that provide reasonable gains for both countries.
The ministry added that “the government reiterates its commitment to working with stakeholders to boost local tomato production under the ‘Feed Ghana’ and ‘Feed the Industry’ programmes, aimed at increasing output to meet demand on the domestic market.
It further urged tomato traders to remain calm as government work around the clock to secure amicable solution .
