The anti galamsey taskforce, NAIMOS , has presented a number of illegal firearms seized during their operation to the Ministry of the Interior.
Speaking at the event, the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, commended the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, and the NAIMOS team for their efforts in the fight against illegal mining.
He further directed that the seized firearms be handed over to the national commission on Small Arms and Light weapons for proper documentation,marking , and destruction in accordance with the law.
The minister assured the public that equipment and items seized during anti-galamsey operations, especially excavators, would be managed transparently and in compliance with due legal processes. He stated that information regarding the seizures and subsequent actions taken would be made available through the appropriate channels to ensure accountability.
Hon. Muntaka emphasized that galamsey continues to pose a significant threat to the environment, polluting water bodies, degrading farmlands, and endangering the health, livelihoods, and well-being of affected communities. He called for sustained public support to help protect the country’s natural resources and ensure a safer and healthier future for all.
