The board of Telecel Ghana Music award has unveiled a new category “Swing Period” in the music awards aimed at rewarding outstanding songs released late in the year.
In a statement issued on March 16, 2026, the board said that the new category introduced in the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana music, gives opportunity to new song released in December to be considered in new edition.
Organizers of the award further gave a breakdown of clearly defined eligibility criteria of the new category ,which include, a song must:
- have been released in December of the eligibility year
- have demonstrate measurable impact within the year under review
- not have received a nomination in the previous editionof the awards
According to the statement , the decision follows a continuous engagement with industry players and reflects the awad commitment to ensuring that impactful songs are not disadvantaged by release timing
Following the introduction of the new category, two songs have earned nomination in the 27th TGMA. These nominations are Messiah by Sarkodie featuring Kweku Flick and Excellent by Kojo Blak featuring Kelvin Boy.
The statement continued that both songs gained massive airplay and music lovers following their release, demonstrate the very scenario Swing Period was designed to address.
